Book Five in The Diaries of Guardia series
With the Midlands success behind them, Rye and his
companions head South after disturbing reports suggest that the Beruvian
port-city and flotilla have been destroyed. A truce is called as Royalist and
Raggedite fight to save the pirate colony after the devastation of a tsunami.
Shaken by Lily’s rejection, Laklas returns to his life of
debauchery with a vengeance, alienating him from the others. Faced with the
possibility of encountering her in-laws and the accusations, Cheeva grows more
and more sullen. Distracted by her squabbles with Tamara, Rye doesn’t see the
biggest danger facing their group.
Lily, haunted by her actions in the war and her break up
with Laklas, begins to pull away from the group. And with Tamara, her last
confidante, working more with the Raggedite than with the Royalists, she no
longer knows where to turn.
And the surprise discovery of a surviving tree-gate might
just throw the three friends against each other as they try to decide who can
use the one last trip home.
With the Royalists distracted by the disaster in the South,
Jamie takes the opportunity to test the new March-Warden, Jermaine. Jermaine is
sent East to begin another campaign against Lierwick as Jamie heads South when
he is told one of the Royalists has defected.
In Mirrside, Harvald might just have stumbled over Ella’s
plans to manipulate Kered. And the woman isn’t about to let him ruin her plans.
